Abstract
This paper examines the intersection of two biographical roles: That of mother and student. Using the normative life-course approach, we analyze patterns of transition to adulthood among Mexican youth. We then compare the trajectories of students with and without children who entered the Universidad Autonoma Metropolitana-Azcapotzalco between 2006 and 2013. In general, the biographical and educational trajectories of female students with children differ significantly from the normative role assumed by higher education institutions. We conclude with some
notes that aim to deepen our understanding of the strategies and resources employed by student mothers in order to remain in college.
